Manual Mode allows you to easily enter time after a specific activity has already concluded. It's very useful in cases where you forget to turn on the regular timer.
Enter Manual Mode by clicking on the plus icon underneath the play icon. You can toggle between Timer Mode and Manual Mode by typing the M key on the keyboard.
How do we calculate AM/PM based on your entry
When you enter a number for your start time, our system uses the current time to make a smart guess.
The “Nearest Time” Rule
For any number from 1 to 11, we pick the closest option to the current time.
Example: If it’s currently 3:00 PM and you type
11
as your start time, we’ll select 11:00 AM, because that’s closer than 11:00 PM.
Special Cases: Typing “12" or “0”
These numbers have specific behaviors to handle the start and end of the day.
If you type
0
, we’ll always interpret it as 12:00 AM (midnight, the beginning of the day).If you type
12
, we look at the current time of day:In the morning (before 8 AM): We assume you mean 12:00 AM.
During the workday (8 AM to 8 PM): We assume you mean 12:00 PM (noon).
Late at night (after 8 PM): We assume you mean 12:00 AM at the start of the next day.
How Stop Times are Determined
For stop times, our main goal is to ensure the time entry always moves forward. We will always pick the next available time that comes after your start time.
Here are a few examples:
If your start time is 10:00 AM and you enter
3
for the stop time, we’ll choose 3:00 PM because that comes after your start time.If your start time is 10:00 AM and you enter
11
for the stop time, we’ll choose 11:00 AM on the same day.If your start time is 10:00 AM and you enter
9
for the stop time, we can’t choose 9:00 AM (because that’s in the past!). So, we logically select the next available option: 9:00 PM.
Of course, our system might not guess right 100% of the time. If we get it wrong, you can easily correct it. Just type “a”, “p”, "am" or "pm" right after your time (e.g., “8a” or “4p”) to specify exactly what you mean.
Tips and Tricks
The order in which you add details doesn't matter. You can define the time first and then the project and description, or you can do it the other way around.
Note: If a workspace admin has chosen to Hide start and end times, these fields will be hidden from the Timer section as well as the List view
You can move between fields by using the Tab key. Pressing Tab moves you to the right, pressing Shift + Tab moves you to the left.
To save the entry without using a mouse, tab over to the pink "plus" button and hit Enter when it is highlighted.
Clicking on the Start field allows you to define both the start date and time. Time entries assigned to a future date will quickly disappear from the Timer page. Those entries can be viewed on the Detailed Reports page.
Use Shortcuts @ and # for Projects and Tags respectively while entering a description. You can disable this setting on the Profile page.
If you click on a Favorite in manual mode, it will create a new manual time entry for that Favorite instead of starting a timer.
You can also track time in Manual mode on our mobile and desktop apps. More details on how to enter time manually in those can be found in their individual support articles.
