AI Insights (BETA)
AI Insights is a conversational reporting assistant built into Toggl.
What is AI Insights Chat?
Instead of building reports manually, you can ask questions about your time tracking data in plain language - things like "How many hours did the design team spend on Project Atlas last month?" or "Which clients are over budget this quarter?"
You'll get answers as text, charts, and downloadable CSV exports.
Heads up: AI Insights is a beta feature rolled out to selected Toggl customers. It can make mistakes, and outputs should be double-checked before being used for business-critical decisions.
What happens when you activate it?
Activating AI Insights for your Organization enables a few things:
- A new chat interface becomes available to authorized Users in your workspace
- Your time tracking data becomes queryable through that chat
- Relevant excerpts of your data are sent to a large language model (LLM) provider to generate responses
You can turn it off at any time by reaching out to support.
Which data gets used?
When a User asks a question, AI Insights pulls only the data needed to answer it. That can include:
- Time entries — descriptions, durations, dates, billable status, tags
- Project & client info — names, IDs, statuses
- User info — display names, emails, roles, permissions
- Workspace & organization identifiers
It does not access data outside your Organization at this point, and it doesn't pull more than it needs for the specific query.
Where does the data go?
Toggl hosts AI Insights on its own infrastructure. To generate answers, queries and relevant data excerpts are sent via API to one or more of these and other LLM providers:
- Anthropic (USA)
- Google Cloud EMEA (Ireland) / Google LLC (USA)
- OpenAI (USA)
- X.AI (USA)
- Requesty (EU)
Important: None of these providers are allowed to use your data to train or improve their models. That's contractually enforced.
For international data transfers, standard safeguards apply.
Data protection roles
Nothing changes here from your existing Toggl setup:
- You (Organization Owner) remain the controller of your data
- Toggl remains the processor
- The LLM providers act as sub-processors, bound by the same protections as Toggl's existing sub-processors
Cost
AI Insights is included at no extra charge while in beta. Your existing Toggl plan and billing aren't affected. After the end of the beta period you won’t be charged, AI Insights will automatically be disabled for your organization.
