Most online companies out there have a payment system configured to best complement the tool or service they are providing. Ours is no different.

The two most important concepts regarding Toggl pricing...

  • Subscriptions are tied to the workspace, not to the user who started them. In other words, they are workspace-specific and not user-specific.
  • You are charged for every user of the workspace, regardless of their privileges within the workspace.

The reason subscriptions are tied to workspaces was to allow a single person (e.g. a business owner) to pay for everyone in their team. Making subscriptions tied to individual users would mean that each user must perform the upgrade separately.

For more details on what workspaces are how to manage them, open the Introduction to workspaces article.

Knowing how much you need to pay for Toggl

Calculating the monthly or yearly Toggl fee is pretty straightforward. You multiply the base per user/month price with the number of active users in your workspace. You can see how many active users you have by opening the Team page or the Subscription page. Active user is any user listed under the "Active" tab in the Team page. Whether or not they are actively using the service isn't a factor. You will not be charged for users listed under the Inactive tab in the Team page.

The base per user/month price is fixed and doesn't change unless your workspace has a discount. The prices are:

  • Starter monthly: $10
  • Starter annual: $9
  • Premium monthly: $20
  • Premium annual: $18

To calculate the annual fee, you multiply the usual monthly cost with 12. Please note that our annual plan self-balances every month which prevents you from being overcharged for the annual cycle. For example, you paid the annual fee for 5 users and immediately deleted 2. We'll only deduct the fee for 5 users from the first month of the annual subscription. The other 11 months will be calculated for 3 users which means you'll finish the annual cycle with a positive balance. This positive balance will then be automatically deducted from your next annual charge.  Open the Paying monthly vs annually article for more details on the annual plan.
