Draft Projects

Draft Projects let project managers model possible work before committing it. They are hidden from team members, can be included in capacity planning, and can later be published into regular projects.

What they’re for

Use Draft Projects to answer:

• Can we take on this project?
• What happens to team capacity if we do?

Draft Projects are visible only to the project manager who created them and to admin users. Team members do not see the project or its tasks.

Create a Draft Project

1. Create a new project.
2. Enter the project name.
3. Enable the Draft toggle.
4. Save the project.

A small info icon explains the feature inline. Draft Projects are marked with a Draft label in the project list.

How Draft Projects appear in different views

Tasks under a Draft Project automatically inherit the draft state. There are no standalone draft tasks.

You can identify draft tasks by:

• Draft labels in task list and board views
• A diagonal striped background on the timeline

Capacity planning behavior

The Show drafts toggle controls whether draft work is included on the timeline.

• When enabled: draft tasks appear on the timeline and are included in capacity calculations
• When disabled: draft tasks disappear from the timeline and their estimates are excluded from capacity calculations

In the walkthrough, turning drafts off changed one user’s load from 8 hours to 6 hours.

Publish a Draft Project

When you’re ready to confirm the work, publish the Draft Project.

You can do this by:

• Clicking Publish, or
• Turning off the Draft toggle

Once published, the Draft label disappears and the project becomes a regular confirmed project.

Limitations

• You can’t track time against a Draft Project
• You can’t track time against tasks under a Draft Project

If time was already tracked on a confirmed project and that project is later converted to draft, the existing time entries and time blocks are removed.
